Which country has the most expensive Big Mac in the world?
Looking at the latest Big Mac index from The Economist, we could be surprised that the country in which the Big Mac is the most expensive is Venezuela (a Big Mac would cost you $9 there). In the top 5 you can also find Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and now Brazil.
Obviously the calculation for Venezuela is artificially inflated as the country controls its currency against the dollar (if we were to remove that consideration, Venezuela would not remain in the top 5).
I always liked the idea of the Big Mac index and the purchasing-power parity theory behind it. it is an interesting guide to the valuation of currencies in different countries and to other specific trends among different economies.
