The link between between baby brains and Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer’s disease is still today not perfectly understood by the scientific community even if new discoveries are regularly made and progress is encouraging.
Scientist in recent years have linked for example the ApoE gene with Alzheimer’s disease. Individuals with a certain versions of this gene seem to be significantly more likely to develop the disease than others.
A new study has found that newborns who had the type of ApoE gene linked with a increase in likelihood of developing Azlheimer’s, also had a smaller brain part than others (the medial temporal lobe which plays a role in memory).
This is important as usually signs of the disease don’t appear before adulthood. It might help us further understand the disease and its development in order to find new treatments.
